A Hip-Hop Album Where Anger and Cruelty Coexist!
An Art Film Documenting Growth and Redemption!
The Rap Romantic, Xia Zhiyu
From “The Nonexistent Film Series”: “Young Fresh Chin II”
Has Now Officially Arrived!
If “Young Fresh Chin” faced cruelty with lightness and innocence,
then “Young Fresh Chin II,” standing at the other end of a parallel world, confronts cruelty with cruelty.
But what remains consistent throughout is still the romanticism and heroism in Xia Zhiyu’s bones!

A survival chronicle written down with pen and paper—
Is it surreal or hyper-realistic?
Is it hyper-magical,
or hyper-romantic?
The Rap Romantic, Xia Zhiyu
After three years, powerfully continues
“Young Fresh Chin” Part Two
A social documentary film that does not exist at all!
A cruel film soundtrack written for the times!
And a brilliant hip-hop album entirely sampled from Chinese pop music!
Xia Zhiyu, from “The Nonexistent Film Series”:

⊗ A Hip-Hop Album Where Anger and Cruelty Coexist!
If “Young Fresh Chin” faced cruelty with lightness and innocence,
then “Young Fresh Chin II,” standing at the other end of a parallel world, confronts cruelty with cruelty.
But what remains consistent throughout is still the romanticism and heroism in Xia Zhiyu’s bones.
Continuing once again the small-town boy perspective from “Young Fresh Chin” Part One:
Against the backdrop of a grand era that arrived with great fanfare, how ordinary people defy their own insignificance.
To better portray the era depicted in the film, Xia Zhiyu and producer MAJOR YAO, in the production of this album,
while retaining production methods close to 90s hip-hop, deliberately used Chinese pop music across the board as sample sources.
Sonically, it has the fresh, raw ferocity of 90s hip-hop, while quickly drawing listeners into the era depicted in the film.
⊗ An art film documenting growth and redemption!
“Young Fresh Chin” literally translates to “young and fresh chin,” evoking the chin-up spirit of adolescence, while Chin also carries an implicit pun on China—namely, “a raw and fierce Chinese youth.”
Regarding this work, Xia Zhiyu says:
“‘YFC II’ is not a sequel to ‘YFC.’ Rather, it expands a relatively light and exaggerated collection of vignettes into a complete and serious narrative feature—
a crime film full of romanticism and heroism,
a path of self-redemption for a youth in a cruel environment,
a sad story filled with regret.”
