Hip-Hop: The Intersection of Two Life Highways

Rewind the clock 18 years, Zhiyu Xia, a high school student in Guangyuan, Sichuan, got into hip-hop through street dance. Listening to 50 Cent, Eminem, and eventually Nas, he realized rap wasn't just about looking cool or acting tough, and began trying to incorporate his observations into rhymes. Dizkar, a middle school student in Kunming, Yunnan, loved rap and freestyle battles. Finding that the type beats available online could no longer satisfy him, he began sampling classic soul music to create his own beats.

After both successively joined Mintone Records, much like the birth of many classic hip-hop duo albums in history, these two hip-hop youths with similar backgrounds shared a common passion by a twist of fate, hit it off immediately, and created a hip-hop record that everyone would love.

Zhiyu Xia: From Mother-Tongue Shame to First Sichuan Dialect Release!

Born in a factory worker family district in Guangyuan, Sichuan, Zhiyu Xia grew up in an environment where multiple Sichuan dialect accents intertwined, accompanied by Mandarin-style phrasing, shaping his "unauthentic (wai gan)" Sichuan dialect. Consequently, in his past creations, he avoided expressing himself using his native dialect, worried that his unauthentic Sichuan dialect would prevent him from accurately conveying his thoughts. Although the creative inspiration this time still stems from his upbringing, unlike the more theatrical expression in "Young Fresh Chin," "Everyone Loves Hip-Hop" is much more grounded in daily life, with each story prototype coming from people around him. To vividly restore the scenes of his life and growth, Zhiyu Xia chose to try using his native tongue. Yet once he started, he couldn't stop after finishing the very first track, completing this exhilarating and freely expressed Sichuan dialect rap album!

Dizkar: From R&B Singer to First-Time Rap Artist!

Though he made a name for himself in the Kunming underground rap scene as a teenager with punchy, spicy Kunming dialect freestyles, and his extraordinary talent in producing hip-hop beats was praised by industry insiders, in recent years he became widely known to fans as an R&B/soul singer-songwriter. Last year, his second album "Fat & Thin Music: Full Experience," which fused retro and fantasy, won numerous accolades and captured the Best R&B Album at the 4th HMA. Although he had collaborated with Zhiyu Xia often in the past—such as in "YFC2," where Dizkar cleverly sampled his own soul-style track "Solitary Fire" to produce "Rap"—he mostly participated as a featured vocalist or beat maker. At the inception of "Everyone Loves Hip-Hop," Zhiyu Xia once again invited Dizkar to participate. As production progressed, Dizkar shared his own growing-up experiences with Zhiyu Xia and once again showcased his love and talent for rap. The two hit it off and decided to present "Everyone Loves Hip-Hop" in the form of a duo collaboration album! Dizkar not only took full charge of the arrangement and production of the entire album but also picked up the rapper's mic once again, conversing with Zhiyu Xia through Kunming dialect rap about their growth experiences and stories of their fathers.
